Fixing Computers & Networks For Over 30 Years
After working for others for over 30 years in the IT world, it was time to start my own business.
Starting out way back in 1986 for a small modem company — does anyone remember dial-up modems? These were 300 baud and 1200 baud modems that you dialled up to connect to other computers, like bulletin boards. No complaining about your internet speeds please! There was no such thing as the internet then. It still had another 15 or so years to go before it really started.
Anyway, I digress. We hand-built these little suckers from scratch with hand soldering irons and manually tested them with old Microbee computers. I actually managed to find an old advertisement in a November 1987 edition of Electronics Australia magazine for these modems. I probably built and tested these. Look at those prices and the phone number — that is how old it is.
After that, I moved on to working as a field engineer repairing and maintaining systems from PCs to IBM mid-range and mainframe systems, as well as large-format printers that printed 1500 lines per minute and other peripherals.
Working as a hands-on IT Manager for various companies for the past 18 years has given me experience in designing, managing and servicing computers and networks, from the simplest laptop connected to the internet to large, complex, multi-site networks.
